Political debate on family violence available online

The video of a political debate on family violence hosted by the Dunedin Collaboration Against Family Violence has been made available online.

Representatives of four political parties participated in the debate, which was held on 5 September 2014:

The representatives were asked: to what extent their party thinks family violence is a problem in Aotearoa New Zealand and what they propose to do to address it; what their party's position is on reviewing the Family Court changes to ensure they are not damaging women and children experiencing violence; what commitment their party would make to funding everybody who self-refers to do a stopping violence programme; what their party would do to improve Police policy and practice in responding to family violence; what their party would be prepared to commit in terms of sustainable funding for services; what their party proposed to do to support male victims of violence; whether their party would establish a National Family Violence Network Coordinator to support the regional family violence networks as recommended by the Expert Advisory Group; and what their party proposes to do to protect immigrant survivors of family violence.

The debate was facilitated by Associate Professor Nicola Atwool from the University of Otago.
