eProsafe web app facilitates DHB family violence information sharing

Canterbury District Health Board (DHB) has developed a stand alone web application for information sharing regarding child protection and family violence.

Susan Miles, the Child and Family Safety Service Coordinator for Canterbury DHB, developed the ePROSAFE Child Protection and Family Violence web application to improve on cross-DHB information sharing and collection of information regarding family violence.

ePROSAFE includes two sections: family violence and child protection. They provide the space to record details such as personal details and assessment information, the agencies involved, key issues, additional document attachments and the action taken, with printable referral information. The child protection section is only accessible to users who work within the child protection or family violence department(s).

ePROSAFE seeks to facilitate referral management, including case sharing across local DHB users and viewing referrals from other DHBs. The application includes different levels of confidentiality and individual user access levels, including access for external users such as Police.

ePROSAFE has been implemented in the West Coast, South Canterbury and Nelson Marlborough DHBs. Southern DHB intends to adopt ePROSAFE by the end of 2014.

Susan Miles won the Excellence in Health Informatics award for ePROSAFE at the  inaugural Excellence in IT Awards, hosted by the Institute of IT Professionals NZ in Auckland.
