ACC will be hosting a series of sexual violence prevention information sharing sessions around the country between 18 October - 7 November 2016. Details are available on the Clearinghouse Events listing.
ACC says:
"The objectives of these sessions are to talk about the key priorities and outcomes for sexual violence prevention in your area. We’ll have the chance to learn from each other’s’ experiences and understand what government agencies can do to support you. Using data on the prevalence of sexual violence in your region, we’d like to understand from your perspective what your local needs, priority areas and outcomes are to focus on."
Before the sessions, ACC will email a survey to everyone in local sexual violence prevention communities, giving people the chance to provide feedback whether or not they can attend a session.
For further information and to register, email ACC.
ACC has also provided a stakeholder update. This describes the focus of sexual violence prevention workstream, part of the Ministerial Group on Family Violence and Sexual Violence:
"As part of the Ministerial Group on Family Violence and Sexual Violence (set up in 2014), the sexual violence prevention workstream is focusing on reducing duplication of services; moving away from ad hoc funding; working towards an investment criteria; and will get greater visibility, reach, consistency and coverage of programmes and initiatives."
It also sets out the role of the Sexual Violence Prevention Advisory Board, a "forum for government agencies to discuss the advice provided by the sector and experts to improve the coordination, integration and expansion of the government’s response to sexual violence prevention."
ACC says:
"We’ve looked at the last two years of programmes, initiatives and campaigns that have been or are currently funded by government agencies. Many of these initiatives are limited in their current visibility, reach or consistency. We’re aiming to work at a local level to:
- identify local needs and targeted areas to prevent sexual violence
- agree on local outcomes based on existing sexual violence prevention outcomes framework, and
- identify existing and new community channels for delivery
We’re considering the concept of developing a 'repeatable model' – a model that takes core content and proven interventions and reproduces or 'repeats' delivery tailored to specific audiences in specific settings, reflecting ages, stages, culture and key influencers, that would help us to achieve our targets quicker.
The way forward requires agencies and the sector to agree the fundamental components of content for sexual violence primary prevention. Much of this we already know, including consent, bystander intervention, gender role flexibility, help-seeking, healthy relationships, positive masculinity and healthy sexual development, etc.
Critical to underpinning the success of this strategy is local coordination and delivery."
