This year the Aotearoa New Zealand White Ribbon campaign will launch on 8 November with the premier of a new film Raise Our Men.
The film showcases interviews with New Zealand men about their experience of male socialisation. It is based around four risks for male violence (male power, rigid gender roles, only expressing anger, and taking masculine identity from perceived male norms). The film takes a positive approach encouraging men to ask questions and think critically about who they want to be. It will be screening in Auckland on 8 November. Afterwards, the film will be available for free viewing on the White Ribbon website.
Following the launch of the campaign, White Ribbon will be hosting five free workshops with Michael Kaufman across New Zealand. Michael Kaufman is the International co-founder of White Ribbon. Raise Our Men will also be shown at the workshops.
The workshops will look at the socialisation of men and the links to violence, what actions can support respectful relationships and prevent violence, and an introduction to the toolboxes and videos released for the 2016 campaign on respectful relationships. Updated versions of the toolboxes and two new toolboxes will be available from www.whiteribbon.org.nz from 9 November 2017.
The 2017 campaign theme is Raise our Boys. Posters, flyers and other merchandise are available to order from the White Ribbon website. Details about the 2017 White Ribbon ride are also on the website.

Update: Saturday 25 November, White Ribbon Day, is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is marked from 25 November to 10 December. The 2017 theme for the 16 Days of Activism is “Leave No One Behind: End Violence against Women and Girls.” For more information, see the UN press release "As global mobilization against sexual harassment rises, UN Women urges robust action to ensure lives free from violence for women and girls."
